Lipid pneumonia is a chronic, interstitial, proliferative inflammation resulting from aspiration of lipoid material. There are no characteristic signs or symptoms and no special management protocol.
We have experienced a case of lipoid pneumonia cause of aspiration baby oil, which were confirmed by history and detection of lipid-laden-macrophage from sputum direct smear. The symtoms were mainly dyspnea, irritability and agitation due to
abrupt
aspiration of relatively large amount of oil. There occurred pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum, but luckily there was no secondary infection. We treated him intensively with ventilator care, frequent suction, and corticosteroid. And there was
rapid
progress, so we reported with a brief review of literature.
